Getting out the door with twins can be daunting. Babies and toddlers both have their separate challenges and I'm not sure which I'd prefer! But there are a lot of things that you can do to make it easier to get organized. Here are some suggestions that have helped me to make the process a little smoother.
- Plan to leave early and start getting ready earlier than you think you need to do so (if you make it a habit it becomes routine). I find that I’m either 15 minutes late or 10 minutes early. (When I’m late the added stress doesn’t help anyone so I’d rather get there early and sit in the car for a few minutes).
- Pack the night before. I pulled out the diaper bag the night before and even put it in the car then if I can. I double check that there are diapers and wipes, AND backup outfits ready. It seems that whenever you need those things you don’t have them.
- Prep everything that you can the night before. I lay out the clothes for the twins (including their diapers), and my clothes (and iron them then if I’m feeling especially motivated). I prep the breakfast stuff (I’ll make a big batch of pancakes that will reheat in the morning), and make sure that their cups for breakfast are clean (and I’ll fill them and have them waiting in the fridge). Lastly, being winter in the Midwest, I’ll lay out their 2 coats, 2 hats, 2 pairs of boots, and 2 pairs of mittens.
